What is Translation Memory?

Translation memory is basically a database of translations for a specific project. A TM database brings two key advantages;

• improves consistency across translations
• saves time and money by identifying repeat text.

When the TM sees that a sentence has been translated before it alerts the translator by showing them the previously translated line. The translator can then decide if the line can be re used or needs to be modified. Where a line can be re-used we discount the translation of those parts by 50%.

Working in this way saves you money and ensures that terms and phrases are kept consistent between translations.
